Dr. Sprott, Flag Breakfast Q&A Speaker
Richard Sprott entered the San Francisco leather scene in 1990, and after a few years joined the Defenders/SF in 1995. That led to involvement in the Leathermen’s Discussion Group, serving on the Board since the Board’s inception in 1999 until 2006, and then returning to the LDG Board in 2011 to start up the LDG Mentoring Program, which currently is in its 12th year.
Richard was chosen as SF Leather Daddy XXIII in 2005. In 2009, he was chosen as Mr. Alameda County Leather 2009. Along with Dr. Robert Bienvenu and sex therapist David Ortmann, he founded CARAS (the Community-Academic Consortium for Research on Alternative Sexualities),and served as its first Executive Director. Richard also is one of the founders and currently serves as the Research Director of TASHRA (The Alternative Sexualities Health Research Alliance).
Richard has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from UC Berkeley. He is co-author with sex therapist David Ortmann of the book “Sexual Outsiders: Understanding BDSM Sexualities and Communities” published in 2013. He served as President of the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (Division 44 of the American Psychological Association) in 2021-2022. He has a wonderful leather family supporting him: his husband Dave (22 years), his pup Spunky (17 years), his slave marcus (16 years as boy, 1 year as slave), his slave eric (10 years), his slave lyle (8 years), his slave jason (5 years), and slave 3468 (5 years).
