Peter’s interest in BDSM and the M/s community is two-fold: professionally and personally. He is a bisexual cisgender male, living in a mixed-orientation marriage that is consensually and ethically non-monogamous. His personal interest in alternative sexual expressions encompasses a solidarity with those who have been othered for living their lives authentically: M/s, BDSM practitioners and sexual minorities.
As a professional counselor, he has come to realize the limits of traditional and mainstream treatments. This realization encouraged the exploration of alternative interventions which have the potential of producing dramatic transformational changes in clients who have long standing inter- and intra-personal challenges. Additionally, he has come to gain a more thorough and broad understanding of social justice and how othering influences not only micro groups but also macro professional organizations. Since 2015 he has provided professional clinical trainings which include “Changing Taboos-Healthy Sexuality Today” (2015); “Unspeakable Violence: BDSM & Abuse in the GLBTQQI Population” (2015) and “Becoming a Kink Aware Therapist (2016)) and “The Wounded Clinician” (Co-Keynote Speaker, (CARAS, 2017). He is the co-author of “Becoming a Kink-Aware Therapist” (available through Amazon), the first of its kind aimed at mental health professionals and launched www.kinkknowldegeable.com a comprehensive online academy with extensive courses aimed at professionals looking to move from being kink-aware towards being kink knowledgeable.
